Learning objectives
The course is divided into a main course and in language classes for pratical exercises and aims to introduce the main characteristics of the French language from a theoretical and applied perspective. The course will provide students (beginners, intermediate and advanced) with the basic phonetic and phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical skills for communication and writing short texts in French. In addition to grammar knowledge, the course also aims to develop critical listening, reading and comprehension skills.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will reach a level equal to the B1 of the CEFR in the French language, and will master all the fundamental language skills (in particular listening and reading). They will be able to discuss non-specialist topics in French.

COURSE SYLLABUS
The course is composed by lectures (main course= corso principale/monografico) and a cycle of language classes in order to improve language skills (esercitazioni).
Lectures of the main course aim to provide students with the main concepts and tools of French language and linguistics. Special attention is devoted to phonetics and phonology, morphology and lexicon, as well as syntax.
The first module presents the main morphosyntactic aspects of French language through the analysis of short newspaper articles on topics related to the main fields addressed by the degree program, as well as advertising messages. The second module addresses the study of the principal morphosyntactic aspects of the French language via the analysis of comics strips and texts related to tourism.
Both modules are characterized by the use of audiovisual material in order to improve oral comprehension and production.

Lectures (corso monografico) are based on frontal teaching and aim to the consolidation of morphosyntactic strcutures, of vocabulary and of phonetics. In order to strengthen written and oral abilities, students will also be asked to actively take part to the lessons by working on specific exercises.
Language classes for practical exercises target the learning and maintenance of morphosyntactic structures; they are also conceived to initiate students to written production and to develop linguistic and communicative skills. Students are divided into three groups, over the whole academic year. Students who have attended up to 2/3 of the lessons are allowed to take two partial exams. Examination modalities will be defined after assessment of the sanitary situation

Assessment methods and Criteria
ASSESSMENT METHODS AND CRITERIA
Students' evaluation will take into account the development of judgment abilities in the analysis of the analyzed texts as well as the skills acquired in oral and written expression.
The final exam is composed by a written test (a) and an oral one (b). Both of them are mandatory:
a) the written test, aimed to assess the ability to apply language skills to written texts (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), includes:
-an oral comprehension test
-a grammar test
-a vocabulary test (prepare the whole textbook Alter EGO B1)
-a dictation exercise
Students who succeeded in the two partial exams are exonerated from the final exam. Their final mark would result from the sum of the marks obtained in the two partial tests.
Please bear in mind that:
1) Students who don't take the two partial exams will be considered as not-attending students and will be required to pass the four parts of the final test in one of the three dates scheduled for the written final exam within the academic year.
2) Students who decide not to accept the overall mark resulting from the partial exams are required to retake the four parts of the test in one of the three dates scheduled for the written final exam within the academic year.
b) the oral exam aims to assess the linguistic and communicative skills as well as the ability to apply theoretical and methodological tools of the main course to selected texts. It consists of an interview conducted in French on the content of the lectures, in order to verify knowledge acquisition and the linguistic competence.
N.B. Students have to succeed in the written exam before taking the oral one. None of the exams of the Lingua Francese 2 course can be taken before having passed the Lingua Francese 1 exam.
Students with an ESABAC certificate are exonerated from the written test.

The use of a bilingual and of a monolingual French dictionaries is mandatory, both in the paper format. The use of dictionaries in a reduced format is strongly discouraged:

Assessment methods and Criteria
Students' evaluation will take into account the development of judgment abilities in the analysis of the analyzed texts as well as the skills acquired in oral and written expression.
The final exam is composed by a written test (a) and an oral one (b). Both of them are mandatory:
a) the written test, aimed to assess the ability to apply language skills to written texts (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), includes:
-an oral comprehension test
-a grammar test
-a vocabulary test (prepare the whole textbook Alter EGO B1)
-a dictation exercise
Students who succeeded in the two partial exams are exonerated from the final exam. Their final mark would result from the sum of the marks obtained in the two partial tests.
Please bear in mind that:
1) Students who don't take the two partial exams will be considered as not-attending students and will be required to pass the four parts of the final test in one of the three dates scheduled for the written final exam within the academic year.
2) Students who decide not to accept the overall mark resulting from the partial exams are required to retake the four parts of the test in one of the three dates scheduled for the written final exam within the academic year.
b) the oral exam aims to assess the linguistic and communicative skills as well as the ability to apply theoretical and methodological tools of the main course to selected texts. It consists of an interview conducted in French on the content of the lectures, in order to verify knowledge acquisition and the linguistic competence.
N.B. Students have to succeed in the written exam before taking the oral one. None of the exams of the Lingua Francese 2 course can be taken before having passed the Lingua Francese 1 exam.
Students with an ESABAC certificate are exonerated from the written test.
