Learning objectives
The course aims to generate, develop and strengthen students' skills about contemporary European history (19th and 20th century), through lectures and thanks to the use (in addition to the usual learning tools) of audio and visual tools, useful sources for studying history.
Students will also be led to reflect on the most current issues in the field of historiography and about their application in the public field.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will have to demonstrate, through an oral exam, a sure knowledge of the main lines of development of contemporary European history, with reference to the countries considered.
They will also have to know how to argue the causes and the effects of the main events of the period studied, with a language suited to the topics covered.

Course syllabus
Italy and Germany: from the end of the Second World War to the Nineties of the XX Century
Unit 1 - Italy from the end of the Second World War to the end of the First Republic.

Prerequisites for admission
The Students must have a certain knowledge of the main events of contemporary history, from mid-1800s to the present times, which can be acquired through the study of Sabbatucci-Vidotto, Il mondo contemporaneo.
Teaching methods
During the lessons, the professor will outline the main events of Italian and German history in the period from the end of WWII to the Nineties of the XX Century, within the broader context of European history.
Through the vision of historical films, the course also aims to provide tools for the use of cinema as source for the study of history

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam is an oral test aimed at ascertaining the students' knowledge of European history from the mid-1800s to the present times and, in particular, the history of an European country chosen by the student. It will be evaluated also the students' ability to analyse the texts and films indicated in the program.
