Third Mission case studies

Academic research not only produces knowledge, but also creates services, opportunities, innovation and benefits for society.

The case studies linked from this page exemplify some of the most significant initiatives implemented by the 31 Departments of the University of Milan together with citizens, schools, institutions, companies, associations, healthcare providers and local communities.

These projects have contributed to tackling real-life problems, improving services, promoting health and wellbeing, enhancing cultural heritage, supporting environmental sustainability, fostering innovation and creating new opportunities for participation and growth.

Each case study provides a short and straightforward description of the project in question, highlighting results and the benefits produced for the local community, with most of the projects spanning multiple years.

Together, all case studies illustrate the variety of ways in which the University puts its expertise to the service of society, as well as its tangible contribution to the cultural, social, economic and environmental development of our country.
