Student collaborations: 200 hours
Students studying for bachelor’s, master’s or single-cycle master’s degrees can work within the university for a maximum of 200 hours and no fewer than 8 hours over the course of an academic year.
Who can take part
Students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply to work at the University:
- They are currently enrolled at the University
- They have acquired at least two-fifths of the credits (rounded down) specified in their chosen plan of study, and have not exceeded the standard number of years envisaged by their studies by more than two years
- They do not sit on an academic body of the University as student representatives.
The following additional requirements may also be stipulated as being desirable or essential:
- Studying for a particular degree
- Being enrolled on a specific year of a degree course
- Knowing specific techniques and/or foreign languages
- Having specific experience in the activity requested.
Student collaborations contract
Student collaborations are remunerated at the rate of Euro 10.00 per hour, exempt of tax.
The work carried out by the student is subject to checks. Where irregularities are found in the performance of the work, and provided justified reasons are given, the following may occur:
- reduction in payment amount
- cancellation of the assignment.
The collaboration may be suspended, with or without the possibility of resuming it at a later date, when there are justified reasons for doing so. No payment is due for work which has not been provided.
Termination of student collaboration contract
The student collaboration contract will automatically end on the date specified in the relative call, and in any case:
- on the date the student passes his/her degree exam or on the date he/she ceases to be enrolled at the University
- at the student’s request.

Collaborations 150 hours
The previous regulation applies to notices issued until 31 January 2021. The collaborations provide a maximum of hours of 150 and an hourly fee of 8 Euros.
In order to apply for student work, students must put their name down in the List of Student Collaborations by:
- Unimia - Servizi SIFA - Servizi di segreteria (Unimia – SIFA services – Student Registry)
- Register for calls for application
Student collaborations are subject to the issuing of a call for applications by the university structures in which student workers are required. There are two types of calls for applications:
Calls that draw students from the List of Student Collaborations
The structure that issues the call for applications will draw students directly from the ranking list. Given the urgency, these calls are not published on the University’s website.
Calls based on selection
Students entered on the List can register, via the Web, for calls based on specific selection procedures. In this case, registration is not automatic, and will take place according to the provisions set out in the call for application.
Students can enter their names on the List from the start of October, and only after enrolling on the academic year.
Students enrolled on the first year
For students enrolled on the first year of a bachelor’s degree programme, the calculation of two-fifths of credits is based on the year of enrolment. The two-fifths of credits must have been acquired 30 days before names are put down on the List.
Students enrolled on years subsequent to the first year
Students enrolled on years subsequent to the first year can enter their names on the List after obtaining two-fifths of the credits stated in the programme structure up to the year preceding the year in which they last enrolled.
Students enrolled on the first year
For students enrolled on the first year of a master’s degree programme, the requirement to have acquired two-fifths of the credits is not taken into consideration, since this requirement is considered to have been met in the previous cycle of studies.
Students who have graduated from other universities
Graduates from other universities who are enrolled on a (two-year) master’s degree programme at the University of Milan must make the following declarations regarding their previous studies when entering their names on the List:
- the number of credits acquired (under the old university system according to the procedures prior to the entry into force of Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and 270/2004, number of exams taken)
- the arithmetical mean of their exams in thirtieths
- the year they first enrolled (if this was the 2014/2015 academic year, enter 2015)
- the year of graduation (if this was the 2016/2017 academic year, enter 2017).
The Committee checks the truthfulness of the information declared regarding previous studies. When appearing in front of the Committee, students who have graduated from other universities are asked to produce a self-certificate showing the exams taken, marks, credits obtained and all the academic years in which they were enrolled. Failure to provide this self-certificate will result in the student’s exclusion from the competition.
When a student enters their name on the student collaborations list, the procedure issues a certificate of their points score, calculated according to:
- their merit situation 30 days before the day on which they enter their name on the list
- Economic Situation (ISEE - Indicator of Economic Situation).
To apply the points score based on income, the student must obtain an ISEE certificate before entering their name on the list. They can still enter their name on the list without an ISEE certificate; however, in this case, the points score based on income will be zero.

Merit is determined by multiplying the number of credits acquired by the average mark obtained in the exams, and then dividing the result by the number of years the student has actually been enrolled; the result thus obtained must be divided by 29.
When calculating the base score, the student’s entire university career, starting from the date they enrolled for the first time, is taken into consideration.
For students enrolled on two-year master’s degree programmes, the educational activities recognised from their previous studies are not taken into account.
The arithmetical mean criterion is used to calculate the average mark obtained in the exams. For students enrolled on two-year master’s degree programmes, the mark average is calculated by adding the average mark in their previous studies to the average mark in their current studies and dividing the result by two.
9 credits are attributed for each degree exam under the old university system.
To calculate the actual number of enrolled years, the number of years of enrolment starting from the date on which the student enrolled for the first time, including any years in which his/her studies were interrupted, is used.
For students enrolled on two-year master’s degree programmes, the calculation is based on the number of years enrolled plus the number of years they were enrolled on the bachelor’s degree. For students enrolled on a second bachelor’s degree, admitted on years subsequent to the first year for the purpose of recognising exams from their previous studies, the calculation is based on the number of years of enrolment plus the number of years already accrued.
Students must check the accuracy of the score assigned to them and ensure that they ask the Student Registry of their specific degree programme to make any changes necessary to the merit and income scores, in good time.
To amend your economic situation you must:
- Cancel your registration for the call for application
- Remove your name from the student collaborations list
- Hand in the correct ISEE certificate
- Wait for the information to be amended
- Register on the list and call for applications.
To amend your points score based on merit (calculated as at 30 days before the date of publication of the call for applications), you must:
- Cancel your registration for the call for application
- Wait for the information to be amended
- Register for the relevant competition.
The offices shall not be liable for requests for changes which are not made in time and which, in any case, do not involve postponing the deadlines.
Students who start a collaboration must send the Salary, Benefits and Independent Contractor Division, External Collaboration and Assignment Office:
- a personal details form, including details of the current account into which the salary will be paid (see attached form)
- a statement of commitment setting out the obligations of the student worker.
The person responsible for the service at the university must send the certificate attesting to the activity carried out.
Where applicable, student workers are obliged to comply with the Regulation containing the code of conduct for public employees and the Code of Conduct for employees of the University of Milan.
