Bachelor's degree courses in Political Sciences (SPO), Social Sciences for Globalisation (GLO) and International Studies and European Institutions (SIE): Additional Language Assessment (6 credits)
SLAM - University of Milan Language Centre manages 6-credit language proficiency tests of French, Spanish, German and Anglo-American required by Political Sciences (SPO), Social Sciences for Globalization (GLO) and International Studies and European Institutions (SIE) degree courses.
The required levels are the following:
- French: B1
- Spanish: B1
- German: A2
- Advanced Anglo-American: C1 (not applicable to SIE)
Students who already hold a language certificate among those accepted by the University, earned for no more than 3 years at the time of submission and at a level equal to or higher than that required, can ask for validation by uploading it through the InformaStudenti platform, 'language test' category..
Students who do not have a valid language certificate will have to take an entry-level test in one of the languages they have chosen. French, Spanish and German tests can be taken between October and February.
Each student can take the test in the chosen language only once per academic year, i.e. the test may be sat again in the following academic year.
Students who attain the required level will receive the language assessment credits, according to their degree programme. Those who fail the test will have to attend a 40-hour language course. Courses take place in the third trimester and attendance is compulsory. At the end of the course, students have to take an end-of-course test. In order to be admitted to the end-of-course test, students must have attended at least 75% of classes. Those who do not attend the required number of classes will not be admitted to the end-of-course test, but they can take the entry-level test again during the first semester of the following year.
Unlike the compulsory Placement test in English, which must be taken by first-year students, the language proficiency tests in French, Spanish and German can be taken by students of any year.
Language assessment in Advanced Anglo-American (not applicable to SIE)
This test can be taken only by second-year and third-year students. First-year students who attained the C1 or C2 level at the compulsory English language Placement test can ask for its automatic validation and receive the corresponding advanced language assessment credits by contacting SLAM through the InformaStudenti platform, 'language test' category.
Students who attained the B2 level at the entry-level test or students who submitted a B2 certificate are entitled to attend the course in advanced Anglo-American.
Please note that the Advanced English language proficiency test is NOT valid for the fulfillment of the English OFA (Additional Learning Requirement) required by bachelor degree courses. The OFA can only be fulfilled by sitting the Placement Test by December of the first year, or by submitting a valid language certificate among those acknowledged by the University.
