This programme aims to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and competences necessary to perform in leadership roles within corporate and departmental coordination units for organ and tissue donations and transplants. In doing so, the programme aims to train nursing professionals capable of autonomously engaging in the operational, organisational, planning, liaison and training activities within those processes. Through this programme, learners will acquire: knowledge of the advanced-stage clinical conditions and diseases which require transplantation; knowledge and competence in applying the principles of the donation process in hospital, community and hospice settings; knowledge, competences and experience in managing the donation and transplantation process and the follow-up process; competence to make multidisciplinary assessments on donor intake and family support; leadership skills in multidisciplinary inter-hospital teams and in national and regional transplant networks; knowledge and competence in interacting with public and private non-profit hospitals and the transplant network; competence in managing and conducting communication with healthcare professionals, families, and associations that contribute to the donation and transplantation process and the follow-up process; knowledge and competence in applying nursing research, EBP and EBN methodologies appropriate for the management of the clinical and organisation aspects of the donation and transplantation process and the follow-up process; competence to analyse nursing, clinical and research cases ? while having regard to repercussions of professional and ethical responsibility ? in multidisciplinary teams and transplantation networks.
The programme is open to graduates of the following degree programmes (Italian Ministerial Decree 270/2004): L/SNT1 - Nursing and midwifery (Nursing degrees and Paediatric Nursing degrees only).
Graduates of the programme can find employment in high-complexity roles within healthcare facilities, both on the donations side (hospital organ and tissue procurement departments, regional coordination departments, regional and national coordination units) and on the transplants side (transplantation units ? inpatient and outpatient), and in corporate training.
