Students will acquire competences in the field of MOFs (metal-organic frameworks). In particular, the main objective of the course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of MOFs. The 1st part of the course will introduce the fundamental concepts of the chemistry behind MOFs. By drawing from fundamental chemistry principles, we can more deeply understand and design new MOFs with superior physical-chemical properties. The 2nd part of the course will show how these design principles have been applied to create MOFs for possible applications in carbon capture and storage/reutilization; nanodrugs and drug delivery; catalysis and photo-catalysis; opto-electronic devices (e.g. semiconductors and LEDs), magnets.
