Generative Artificial Intelligence: Linguistic and Cultural Perspectives

The course aims to present and discuss (from a discursive/linguistic, cultural, and socio-political perspective) the manifestations and consequences of the development of generative artificial intelligence in various linguistic / national / professional contexts. Through the discussion of cases of creation, application, and reception of generative AI and the datasets and linguistic models underpinning it, the course aims to provide a critical and diverse view of the linguistic and cultural implications of the current wave of technological innovation, with the goal of constructing a geographically broad mosaic of the phenomenon and present the (diverse?) interpretations and bias rooted in (different?) cultures (in the broader meaning of the term). At the end of the course, the participants will be required to prepare prompts aimed at generating content and analysis via ChatGPT, related to their own area of study.
