The aim of the course is to systematically examine the multiple roles of the factor 'time' in the criminal legal system. Indeed, the temporal aspect can assume legal relevance not only in the classical perspective of the discipline of the diachronic succession of laws (substantive and procedural), but also in the perspective of the statute of limitations of the crime and the right to a fair trial. Time is also a constitutive element in the structure of certain crimes (the so-called "crimes of duration"), as well as it plays the role of setting deadlines of the criminal process.
