The course illustrates the potential of scientific method communication using video as a preferential format. The course will guide the students towards producing their video detailing a scientific methodology/protocol they currently use in their research activities. Using frontal lessons and guided tutoring the course enables the student to describe a laboratory procedure using video techniques. The student will learn the advantages and disadvantages of video communication in science and how to plan, film and cut a video method on a laboratory procedure. The course is divided into three parts. The first session will provide the students with a theoretical framework of video communication of scientific methods and protocols. Moreover, tools available for filming and editing will be presented. During the second session, the individual work of the students will be monitored via personally scheduled meetings to guide the planning, development and production of a video method dealing with experimental procedures in use by the PhD student. The last session will be dedicated to each student's presentation of the videos and their analysis. Opportunities for publishing the methods will be explored and supported.
Interest in science communication. Knowledge of a protocol peculiar to a specific research sector that is used/will be used by the student. Familiarity with PC use.
