Metabolism and its regulation are crucial in different areas of disease such as oncology, cardiometabolic and neurodegenerative disorders. The aim of this course is to illustrate the central role of metabolism on different aspects of patho-physiology and the possible therapeutic implications. Advanced techniques to study metabolism and its regulation will be reviewed, with particular focus on metabolomics, proteomics and genomics. Emphasis will be on the analysis, interpretation and integration of data obtained with these omics techniques, and the subsequent generation of models via bioinformatics, mathematical and/or logical approaches. The perspective to apply the new knowledge to uncover targets for the development of personalized and precision therapeutics will be discussed.
