Lead instructor: Giulia Giannini
The course analyzes the process of transformation of geocentric cosmology that arrived in the Renaissance from the classical era through the re-elaborations in medieval Arab and Latin culture. In particular, the crucial moments of the Renaissance debate will be described and explained from the perspective represented by the dichotomy "innovation vs. tradition".
Several methodological aspects related to the use of 'computational history' techniques linked to the analysis of a large number of historical sources and the formalization of the argument in mathematical terms will be explored.
