Privacy and Anonymity in Data Release

Today data are more important than ever. We often say that "data are the oil of the 21st Century". As a matter of fact, the core business of some of the most valuable companies is based on data. However, such data often contain sensitive information related to individuals or organizations that should be protected from disclosure. The problem of properly ensuring privacy when sharing or releasing data is far from being trivial. Even apparently anonymous or sanitized data can be exposed to attacks aiming at breaching confidentiality and retrieving information not intended for disclosure. The course aims at illustrating issues and possible approaches for ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information when data collections are subject to external release.
