Lead instructor: Giulia Bistagnino
The aim of the course is to provide students with insights on how to define effective research projects in political philosophy. The course will therefore offer an overview of the main methodological and argumentative strategies available to frame and address normative questions. Similar strategies will be discussed through close examination of classical texts in modern and contemporary political philosophy, which provide fruitful grounds for appreciating their merits and limits. Moreover, references to classical texts and authors are meant to familiarize students with major meta-theoretical and substantive debates, which are functional as a background for specifying and developing research proposals.
Mandatory for students of the PhD programs in Political Studies
