The Other Half of Publishing: Twentieth-Century Women Professionals in Publishing and Reading

The publishing world of the twentieth century has seen many women who have worked in various capacities and in different roles in the book production chain, from conception to production, from publishing mediation to distribution and promotion, up to the diffusion of book culture and reading. In this Seminar, eighteen young scholars presented their original research, all based on documents still unpublished or poorly exploited, on individual women book professionals in the twentieth century, whose experiences were divided into five thematic areas: 1. publishing work, 2. in the translators' laboratory, 3. promoting reading, 4. designing the book, 5. women's militancy.
