Zoonoses of Mammalian and Avian Species
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The course has the aim to provide basic knowledge on epidemiology, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases of livestock and poultry and information on emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases at national and EU level.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Knowledge and understanding
The student will acquire the knowledge of the main zoonotic diseases, in relation to prevention and management of the livestock husbandry. Understanding the role of professional profile in biosecurity of livestock husbandry e in public health. Understanding how animal health is of critical importance for sustainability of animal production.
2. Appling knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to evaluate the risk of potential zoonotic diseases in relation to animal species, husbandry and habitat. The student will be able to apply appropriate biosecurity measures.
3. Making judgments
At the end of the course the student will be able to read and critically analyse documents and information on infectious zoonoses.
4.Communication
The student will be able to explain what he has learned in a simple and clear way using correct and appropriate scientific terminology. Practical teaching on case studies and biological samples collection will stimulate the ability to use specific terminology and the ability to discuss scientifically with peers.
5.Lifelong learning skills
The student will have the ability to continue, during his professional life, the study of the topics covered by the course in function of the new epidemiological situations that may arise, thanks to the mastery of the concepts and tools of critical analysis provided by teachings of the modules.
