Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the students with a basic, practical education for the correct clinical management of the main soft tissue surgical diseases, of orthopedic and trauma patients, the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, the main reproductive diseases, of contraception, and the neonate patient in dogs and cats, as well as of the exotic pet's main diseases. In detail, students should learn, apply, deal autonomously, and communicate efficiently, basic knowledge about etiopathogenesis, clinical workup, and clinical management of the main soft tissue surgical diseases, orthopedics, and traumatology, of the main internal medicine diseases, of the main reproductive diseases, of contraception and of neonatal diseases in dogs and cats, as well as of exotic pets' diseases.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able to recommend the correct clinical workup to make a diagnosis and to plan the adequate treatment for the main soft tissue surgical diseases, orthopedic and trauma patients, for the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, for the main reproductive diseases, for contraception and neonatal diseases in dogs and cats, as well as for exotic pets' diseases.
In detail, they should demonstrate:
1) Knowledge and understanding:
The student should demonstrate to have learned etiopathogenesis, clinical workup, and clinical management of the main soft tissue surgical diseases, orthopedics, and traumatology, the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, the main reproductive diseases, of contraception and neonatal diseases in dogs and cats, as well as of exotic pets' diseases.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding:
The student should demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge to make a correct diagnosis and to manage the main soft tissue surgical diseases correctly, the orthopedic and trauma patient, the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, the main reproductive diseases, contraception, and the neonate patient in dogs and cats, as well as the exotic pets' main diseases.
3) Making judgements:
The student should demonstrate to have acquired the ability to deal autonomously with the clinical management of the main soft tissue surgical diseases, orthopedics, and traumatology, the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, the main reproductive diseases, contraception and neonatal diseases in dogs and cats, as well as of exotic pets' diseases.
4) Communication skills:
The student should demonstrate to have learned to efficiently communicate to owners, colleagues, and public or private institutions, in oral or written form, using correct medical terms, the clinical workup and the clinical management of the main soft tissue surgical diseases, the orthopedic and trauma patient, the main dermatological and internal medicine diseases, the main reproductive diseases, contraception and the neonate patient in dogs and cats, as well as the exotic pets' main diseases.
5) Ability to continue the study autonomously throughout life:
Thanks to a schematic and repetitive approach of the frontal lessons in which explicit reference is made to the recovery of iconographic, video, and bibliographic sources, the student is taught a method of studying diseases' main surgical pathologies of soft tissues, orthopedics, and traumatology, of the main metabolic, infectious and dermatological medical pathologies and the main pathologies of reproduction, contraception and management of the newborn in dogs and cats, as well as exotic pets. The theoretical information and the same process of elaboration of the reasoning for the study will be used in carrying out the practical exercises for the clinical-diagnostic and therapeutic framework of the clinical case.
