Scandinavian Theatre and Performance

Learning objectives
The course presents and discusses the content and research methods of theatre and drama studies, in the field of the Scandinavian theatre and its circulation and reception outside of Scandinavia. This approach includes historical and historiographical, theoretical and critical aspects, applied to significant case studies from modern and contemporary Scandinavian theatre, investigated in terms of dramaturgy, aesthetics, and theatrical practice, as well as in terms of textual, scenic, and transmedial reception, including forms of intercultural mediation.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge of the history, sources, methods, and tools of theatre and drama studies and develop methodologies for analysing dramaturgical practices, interpretation and direction, with a special focus on the modern and contemporary Scandinavian context. They will also learn how to identify and analyse theoretical-methodological and historical-cultural problems relevant to the study of Scandinavian theatre, including intermedial and intercultural re-elaborations.
