Learning objectives
The course falls among the basic teachings common to the degree programme. It aims to provide students with knowledge concerning the mental functioning, and the methods for studying the mind proper of cognitive psychology, cognitive sciences, neuropsychology and neuroimaging. More in detail, it will deal with main cognitive abilities such as attention, perception, memory and learning, language, reasoning, emotions.

- provide the basic knowledge about functions and processes of mental activities;
- provide conceptual tools to reason about the theoretical models of cognitive functioning.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student:
- will have acquired knowledge about the main cognitive functions;
- will have developed the ability to reason about the theoretical models of different cognitive functions, and their implications with respect to the basic assumptions about the nature of mental representations;
- will have acquired the ability to interpret experimental data as a function of the theoretical reference framework.
