Analytics for Chemical Industry
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
- Define analytical chemistry and the criteria that distinguish it from other sciences. - Evaluate contemporary techniques and specialized situations in which the analyst will have to provide analytical solutions. - Determine the solution of complex analytical problems using an integrated approach. - Examine the analytical process in a systematic manner and emphasize the purpose of each stage. - Provide the rationale for the use of statistics in chemical analysis and experimental design and the skills required to perform statistical testing and interpretation of chemical data manually. - Introduce students to the planning and development of quality systems in the analytical laboratory.
Expected learning outcomes
- Introduce students to strategies, techniques and efficiency of modern processes in analytical chemistry. - Propose a suitable analytical approach, collect experimental data from measurements and then perform suitable arithmetic statistical calculations on these chemical data to solve straight-forward problems. - Discuss the role of the analytical scientist in the analytical process and the significance of timely and appropriate analytical measurements to the reputation and economic well-being of a business. - Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of quality management systems relating to the analytical laboratory. - Discuss ways in which advanced techniques (alone or in combination) can be used to solve real industrial problems. - Critically evaluate personal performance, justify choice of solution or strategy, and demonstrate innovation in the critical comparison of alternative approaches for solving the problem.
