Workshop: the Job of the Fashion Journalist

Learning objectives
The workshop questions some key issues concerning fashion communication: what does it mean to be a fashion journalist? And, above all, which are the essential tools to understand a world as fascinating as it is rigorous? The workshop mainly focuses on writing about fashion with an in- depth analysis of specific topics. Like in a newsroom, the students will be stimulated by historical and critical approaches in order to produce professional articles.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge: The course aims to provide students with knowledge and practical tools regarding fashion journalism, with particular reference to technical and cultural aspects.
Skills: Ability to write articles for fashion magazines.

Course syllabus
The workshop provides the theoretical and practical bases for the knowledge of the profession of fashion journalist. These are the topics which will be discussed: the most important spring-summer 2025 trends; Manolo Blahnik's aesthetic; Fiorucci, ant-guard genius; I most important fashion photographers; the look of American first ladies from Jackie Kennedy to Melania Trump; analysis of some fall-winter '25-26 fashion shows.
Prerequisites for admission
No prerequisites are requested. The foreign students must communicate and write in a good Italian without typos and errors.
Teaching methods
Each lesson includes a frontal lecture part, partly made up of slides and various fashion material, followed by a second part of interaction with the students. Attendance is mandatory (it is possible not to attend one lesson out of ten).

Visual materials relating to the various topics will be provided.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final evaluation is based on participation in the class activities and on the qualities of the articles written by the students.
