Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the scientific and cultural tools to learn about: 1. the methodology for the study of the distribution of the events and factors related to the health and the onset of diseases in the population; 2. The data sources and surveillance systems; 3. the principles and methods of health promotion and primary and secondary prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases; 4. the epidemiological characteristics and prevention methods of infectious diseases of greatest interest to public health; 5. the concept of global health in order to facilitate the learning of the great phenomena that affect health and access to prevention and treatment at a global level.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must:
1. be able to understand the design and to analyze the results of studies of descriptive, analytical and experimental epidemiology;
2. know and know how to use the main sources of mortality and natality and morbidity data;
3. know the main instruments of prevention of infectious diseases, with particular attention to disinfection and sterilization techniques and to the use of vaccines, and of non-infectious diseases, in particular will have to know the main issues related to screening;
4. know the epidemiology and the preventive tools as well as the legislation that regulates their use in relation to the infections of greatest interest for public health;
5. Understand the concept and the essentials of global health.
