Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basic notions of prevention, prophylaxis and management of the main infectious and parasitic diseases of equines including those caused by micotic agents. Students will also acquire general skills relating to pathogens that can pose a risk to the individuals caring for or detaining the animals.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course, the student will acquire knowledges related to infectious and parasitic diseases of equines including those caused by micotic agents and the rules regarding their prevention and hygienic-sanitary management.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding useful for identification of infectious and parasitic diseases of horses. The student will have to demonstrate the ability to apply the general biosafety and biosecurity rules regarding their prevention and hygienic-sanitary management

3. Making judgments: the student must demonstrate the ability to critically present the information acquired. To his aim, specific group work on general biosafety and biosecurity rules regarding prevention and hygienic-sanitary management of infectious and parasitic diseases will be proposed.

4. Communication: the student is expected to use scientifically appropriate language, in particular terminology referring to infectious and parasitic diseases of horses. The practical activities and the specific group works are intended to stimulate the ability to use specific terminology and the ability to discuss scientifically with peers.
5. Lifelong learning skills: the student must gain the ability to use acquired knowledge to interpret new epidemiological scenario and/or emerging pathogens, for instance searching scientific databases and critically organising new information.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Learning assessment will consist of a written exam with n. 31 multiple choices for Infectious Diseases and n. 31 multiple choices for Parasitic diseases each, aimed at ascertaining the acquisition of correct understanding of the course topics and is based on the bibliography of the course. The ability to manage the course topics will be evaluated by the teachers during the practical activities and the specific group works. The time given for taking the written test is one hour and 30 minutes. The written exam will be evaluated out of thirty and the final grade will take into account the accuracy of the answers. Each correct answer will correspond to 1 point and wrong answers will correspond to 0 points. The final vote will be calculated as the mean of the points obtained in the Infectious disease and Parasitic disease parts of the written exam. The exam will be passed with at least 18 points for both parts. Results will be communicated by email. The written exam will be the same for attending and non-attending students.
