Learning objectives
To respond independently to nursing care need and to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to manage priority health problems, in all pediatric ages, in different social, family and multicultural contexts.
To plan nursing care according to objectives, according to evidence base practice principles and professional ethics, adapting it to quality standards and clinical risk.
To carry out preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative care interventions in all pediatric ages, using technical-relational and educational strategies and assessing achieved results.
Expected learning outcomes
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- plan the delivery of nursing care in collaboration with the family and the interdisciplinary care group;
- evaluate the progress of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary group, guaranteeing continuity of care;
- be responsible for providing and evaluating pediatric nursing care in accordance with professional quality standards and considering legal indications and ethical responsibilities such as newborns' rights

CLINICAL - PRACTICE AREA
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- integrate the knowledge and skills stemming from the nursing discipline, from biomedical, psychological, socio-cultural and humanistic features to recognize the care needs of the newborn and the family and provide appropriate, effective and evidence-based pediatric nursing care;
- apply the nursing care on the basis of the reference disciplinary theoretical models to assess and diagnose health status and care needs in their physical, psychological and socio-cultural dimensions, plan goals, implement and evaluate the care provided and outcomes achieved;
- conduct a complete and systematic evaluation of data relating to the care needs of the newborn to facilitate growth, development and adaptation in health promotion, maintenance and recovery;
- analyze and accurately interpret the data collected through clinical reasoning;
- interpret and apply the results of research to nursing practice and link research paths to the theoretical development of the nursing discipline;
- provide nursing care in different care settings, both in- and out- of-hospital settings

Welcome the child / boy and his family and / or reference people by introducing himself and specifying his role
Communicate with the child / boy adapting the language so that it is understandable and verifies that the information provided has been understood
Practice active listening towards parents and the child / boy

Choose and implement different procedures for hand washing: social washing, antiseptic washing
Use non-sterile and sterile gloves in a manner pertinent to activity to be carried out and use personal protective equipment
Ensures a peaceful environment for the respect of newborn's sleep-wake rhythm
Ensures compliance with the indications useful for SIDS prevention
Provide for total / partial hygiene of the infant / child and / or provide the necessary material to parents

The student will be able to access the placement exam in September if he has reached the expected number of hours and only after having delivered:
- Placement attendance sheets for each location that certify the achievement of the number of hours

Teaching methods
Placement at Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico and affiliated healthcare facilities
For gestural skills acquisition, exercises, simulations, laboratory experiences are carried out during the degree course

Assessment methods and Criteria
The first year Placement exam consists of:
- an oral test consisting in the presentation of a nursing care plan, based on a real clinical case, elaborated independently by the student during the clinical Placement (presentation time 15 minutes);
- a practical test with simulation of a technical skill. For technical skills, refer to the list delivered during the year
