Learning objectives
The course aims to provide knowledge on the molecular and etiopathogenetic bases, and on the immunological aspects, of chronic non-communicable diseases (oncological, cardiovascular, autoimmune, etc.), or genetic diseases, which allowed the identification and application of new diagnostic tools and advanced treatments, and laid the foundation of precision medicine and regenerative medicine. Furthermore, epidemiological data indicate that the incidence, the clinical manifestations of many pathologies, as well as the response to therapy and side effects can be very different in men and women. The course therefore also aims to provide the basis for understanding the specific molecular, cellular, and biological mechanisms, and in particular the role of sex hormones, which characterize the physio-pathological gender differences and the different response to drugs.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to possess knowledge on 1) pathological bases of advanced cell therapies; 2) molecular bases of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for non-communicable and genetic diseases, and for tissue repair; 3) bases of immunotherapy in different pathological contexts, and 4) bases of gender differences and their declination within the pathophysiological contexts addressed by the course.
