Learning objectives
- To know tools and methods for assessing the association between occupational and environmental exposures and health effects
- To know the main health risk factors associated with work activities in different occupational sectors (agriculture, industry and services) and evaluate their diffusion and modification in relation to the recent evolution of work activities and socioeconomic conditions.
- To know the methods for assessing exposure to main occupational risk factors and their health effects. To illustrate the meaning of environmental and biological monitoring and health surveillance.
- To know mechanisms of action and health effects of the main chemical, physical, biological and organizational risk factors.
- To know the legal obligations mandatory for a doctor who suspects an occupational disease.
Expected learning outcomes
- To know how to collect a complete working history with particular reference to the following aspects: work tasks; used substances; duration and characteristics of the exposures; general conditions of the work environment; personal protective devices
- To hypothesize the occupational origin of a given disease and indicate the appropriate diagnostic tests to verify it.
- To know how to interpret the meaning of biological markers of exposure and effect
- To know the main tools for risk assessment
