Learning objectives
The course aims:
to provide students with notions of forensic medicine and forensic odontology;
to provide the basics of criminal law, civil law and internationally recognized norms relating to human rights;
to legally frame the profession of the dentist;
to provide elements of law of interest to health professionals and in particular to the profession of dentist;
to illustrate the legal and deontological obligations concerning the exercise of the profession;
to provide basic elements of forensic pathology and thanatology;
to provide basic elements related to forensic age estimation procedures, to the reconstruction of the biological profile of the corpse, to the identification of corpses and to the analysis of bite impressions.
Expected learning outcomes
The student must understand the juridical and deontological context (and the related obligations) in which he will practice the health profession. He will have to know the elements of law that will allow him to understand, to prevent and eventually to face civil action or criminal proceedings. He will have to understand the importance of forensic dentistry and its most adopted techniques especially in identifying corpses and in estimating the age of the dead and of living subjects.
