Japanese Culture Ii
A.Y. 2024/2025
Learning objectives
The primary goal of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the historical, political, economic, cultural and ideological aspects of Japan that led to its entrance into the international political scene, from the second half of the 19th century to the 1930s.
Expected learning outcomes
Students are encouraged to actively participate in the course, sharing their ideas on the course topics and debating them in the class. By the end of the course, students will have honed their critical skills, with particular regard to the political and ideological dynamics that, starting from the Meiji Restoration in 1868, contributed to shaping a uniform national identity, and whose effects are still visible in contemporary Japanese society.
