Learning objectives
The final exam of the degree course in Dental Hygiene has the value of a State exam qualifying for professional practice. In preparing for the final exam, the student exercises and develops his or her own thinking and processing skills in relation to the theoretical-practical and technical-operational experiences received during the three-year course.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the three years of study, the student has acquired the ability to think for himself and to elaborate the theoretical-practical and technical-operational experiences he has received during the degree course.

Prerequisites for admission
The student must have all the professional knowledge acquired by all the exams foreseen in the study plan. In particular, the student is admitted to the final exam after having successfully passed the examinations of all the training and internship activities provided for in the study plan, for a total of 173 CFU.
Teaching methods
The practical test consists of the presentation of cases/situations of professional practice for which closed and/or open-ended questions are provided. The written test is then supplemented by an oral exam.
The types of thesis are:
a) compilation thesis (or bibliography), which aims to analyze the state of the art on a topic through a narrative review of the literature;
b) experimental (or research) thesis, which aims to perform a detailed experimental project in all its aspects (sample size, outcome measurements, statistical analysis);
c) argumentative thesis, which does not collect experimental data but nevertheless establishes the methodology (sample size, outcome measurements, statistical analysis) to respond to an experimental question.
In the preparation of the thesis the student will be supervised by a teacher of the CdS, who will play the role of Speaker, and eventual a Correlator.
The oral dissertation of the thesis is carried out in the presence of the Commission, usually with a time limit not exceeding 15 minutes.
Evaluation of the final test:
The definition of the degree vote expressed in one hundred tenths (110) with eventual Laudem, is determined as follows:
a) the weighted average of the curriculum over the three-year period, including internship exams; expressed in 100ths;
b) the result of the practical test, to which a maximum of 10 points can be awarded;
c) the evaluation of the thesis, which can be awarded up to a maximum of 10 points.
The student will be able to obtain Honors on the final graduation exam if:
a) he/she obtains a score from 110 to 112 and holds one or more honors in curricular exams. Honors obtained in internship exams cannot be considered;
b) he/she obtains a score higher than 113.
Teaching Resources
All the material already indicated to the student during the three years of course. For the written work, the student, under the guidance of the Speaker, will have to independently search for the bibliography related to the topic assigned for the written work.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam consists of a practical test during which the student must demonstrate that he has acquired the knowledge and theoretical-practical and technical-operational skills of the specific professional profile and in the drafting of an elaborate and its dissertation.
The final test takes place in the periods and in the ways prescribed by a decree of the Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research in agreement with the Ministry of Health. The Commission for the final exam is composed of 7-11 members, of which at least 2 are appointed by the Order of TSRM and PSTRP of Milan and Provinces (Commission of the Health Profession of Dental Hygienist). The dates of the sessions are communicated by the University to the MIUR and the Ministero del Lavoro, Salute e Politiche Sociali, who can send their own experts, as representatives.
Usually, the two national degree sessions are held in October-November (first session) and in March-April (second session). The final exam of the Degree Course in Dental Hygiene, which has the value of State Examination, consists of two different evaluation moments, which include:
a) practical test
b) dissertation of a written paper (thesis).
Failure to pass the practical test does not allow admission to the oral presentation of the thesis.
