Course syllabus
The Civil Code of the People's Republic of China, approved in 2020, after a decision-making process that began in 2014, driven by the direction taken since the 1980s towards an acceptance of the 'Rule of Law', officially marked China's entry into the Roman legal tradition. The vocation of Roman law to serve as a model for learning legal science and shaping the culture of legal practice, well known in the European context -and beyond -, has unfolded its effects on the Chinese legal system as well. The module will address the main Roman-derived institutions provided for in the recent Chinese Civil Code.
