Learning objectives
The educational aim of the internship is to develop the skills of observation of children and adults in their activities of daily life and to stimulate understanding of the rehabilitation context, the roles within the team and the administrative pathway in the context of occupational therapy .
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the internship the student will be able to:
- observe children during play and daily life activities in the nursery and maternity school
- Observe patients during daily life activities and during therapeutic activities
- Observe the context in which therapy takes place
- Discuss the different skills that characterize the work of the multidisciplinary team in the rehabilitation field
- Understand the administrative process that the patient must undertake during rehabilitation

Course syllabus
During the internship of the first and second semester the student will acquire observation skills; the student has to observe the human and non-human environment of persons / patients during the execution of an individual or group activity and during social interaction. For the first year the student will be asked to:
1. Observe persons who are active in everyday life
2. Observe children during play and daily life activities in the nursery and kindergarten
3. Observe patients during daily life and therapeutic activities
4. Observe the context in which the therapy takes place
5. Discuss the different skills that characterize the work of the multidisciplinary team in the rehabilitation field
6. Understand the administrative process that the patient encounters during rehabilitation.

Prerequisites for admission
Be enrolled in the 1st year of the course of study
Teaching methods
The student will experience internship under the supervision of experienced and qualified occupational therapists in which he/she will have to develop observation skills. The verification of the progressive acquisitions achieved through the internship will take place through an annual evaluation which will include the discussion of the cases being treated.
Teaching Resources
The student will be given a written guide on how to observe persons engaged in activities and how to draw up an observational report.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam includes a winter pre-appeal in which the students, paired as a couple, will have to report on two cases observed during the internship in the community. The final exam, scheduled for the summer / autumn session, involves the presentation of an individual report in which the student describes two patients observed during the internship in an occupational therapy service. The paper forms the basis for the oral exam.
