Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will be written. It will mainly consist of multiple choice questions with the addition of some open questions, in addition it will be possible, at the discretion of the teacher, to carry out an additional oral test.
Physiopathology of heart failure
Course syllabus
Definition and pathophysiology of heart failure: Terms for the description and definition of heart failure.
Etiology and Pathophysiology of heart failure
Symptoms and signs: Symptoms and signs of congestion.
Physical symptoms and signs resulting from inadequate tissue perfusion.
Symptoms and Severity: Classification of decompensation according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA).
Non-invasive and invasive investigations: Laboratory tests to be performed in patients with symptoms or signs of heart failure.
Neurohormonal evaluation.
ECG in heart failure.
ECG Holter. Chest X-ray. Lung function. Echocardiography. Nuclear cardiology. Cardiopulmonary stress test. Diagnostic imaging after stress. Right and left catheterization, coronary angiography.
Treatment of advanced heart failure: Health education, drug therapy and devices.
Pre and post cardiac transplant assistance: Cardiac transplant indication, requirements, absolute and relative contraindications, laboratory and instrumental screening, transplant list insertion. Organ assignment: criteria, receiving status. Diagnostic-therapeutic and care protocols aimed at systematic monitoring of clinical conditions and identification of early and late complications. Systemic and transplant organ complications. Etiology of systemic complications. Graft vasculopathy. Survival after transplant. Quality of life after transplantation.
