Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to analyse the discursive genres used in the field of economy, law and politic applied to Spanish language, paying particular attention to the role that linguistic mediation perform in that fields and to the communicative strategies that ensure the efficacy from a linguistic and intercultural point of view. One of the fundamental aims of the course is to allow the acquisition of skills and expertise to use in several working fields where mediation is important.
Teaching comprehends and introduction to theory and also practical activities in which students have to prove the acquisition of expressive, mediation and intercultural skills, as well as metalinguistic reflections on textual analysis. At the same time, the course aims to encourage the acquisition of syntactic structures of the Spanish language.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student should achieve a linguistic competence not lower than level B2 of the European Framework of Reference. In addition, he/she will be able to expose the contents of the course in Spanish and develop independently the analysis and forms of mediation in the areas mentioned.

Part 1: "Bilingualism and languages in contact" (20 hours, I sem.).
The course aims to address the main problems related to bilingualism and social factors influencing language learning. It will be studied, in particular, the situations of contact between Italian and Spanish, and the diffusion of Spanish in the United States. In addition, texts oriented towards personal narrative (life stories and linguistic biography) will be analysed.
Part 2: "Aspects of oral Spanish" (40 hours, II sem.)
Some morphosyntactic, lexical and pragmatic traits in different oral discursive genres will be analyzed.
EXERCISE LANGUAGELESSONS
The course includes exercise languege lessons (80 hours, I and II semester). The exercise language lessons are intended to expand the grammatical and syntactic structures with particular attention to the use of the use of indicative and subjunctive. At the end of the course, the student will have to reach a competence not inferior to level B2 of the European Framework.

In order to take Spanish Language II exam students must have passed successfully Spanish Language I examination.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam includes both written and oral examinations that will take place as follows:
WRITTEN EXAM: it can be taken three times a year (May, September and January) and includes the following tests (to be taken without any kind of dictionary).
a) Computer grammatical test aimed at verifying the knowledge of first level Spanish morphosyntactic structures, with particular attention to the use and knowledge of "modo indicativo" and " modo subjuntivo". Time available: 40 minutes.
b) Assessment of lexical skills . The aim of this part of the test is to verify the knowledge of basic vocabulary concerning the following areas: sport, emotions, performances and exhibitions, institutions, commerce, environment, ecc.
c) Assessement of written production based on an exercise of production starting from a topic (aprox 200 words).
Available time: 60 minutes.
The grammatical test (a) is preparatory to the other tests (b and c). All the tests have to be taken in the same day along the same round.
IN ORDER TO TAKE THE ORAL EXAM, STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE WRITTEN TEST
ORAL EXAMINATION: it takes place six times a year and includes:
Interview on the topics of the 'official course' (part 1 and part 2), which aims to verify that the student has learned the notions of the two units, is able to express them clearly and precisely, using the correct terminology and has acquired an adequate metalinguistic reflection.
For the part 2, all students are required to bring to the exam their own text analysis.
Attending students will be able to take some of the exams during the year.
Further details:
- It is not advisable to attend the oral examination without having passed the written examination. In any case, the examination can only be recorded after both tests have been passed.
- Tests taken in official rounds are valide for a year.
- The validity of mid-term tests is specified when the results are published.
- The validation of the final assessement (written exam + oral exam) can be done only during the oral exams, upon registration.
- To be allowed to take both written and oral the exams students must register themselves at the round. In order to ensure a better organization of the exam, students that decide to quit the round are kindly asked to cancel the registration at SIFA, within the date of the round.
ORAL EXAM
It can be taken six times a year and includes the following test: oral exam on the topics of the official course (Unit 1 and Unit 3). This part of the exam aims to verify if the student acquired the key concept of both units, if he/she can express them in a precise and clearly way, using the appropriate terminology and if she/he acquired an appropriate metalinguistic thought.
As for Unit 2, the final exam does not include a specific test about it, but the detailed study of its topics is essential to deal with the grammatical test and with the others tests includes in the written exam.
Attending students will be able to take part of the test included in the oral exam.
Warnings:
- Tests taken in official rounds are valide for a year.
- The validity of mid term tests is specified when the results are published.
- The validation of the final grade can be done only during the oral exams, upon registration.
