Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to practice the day-one competencies in the clinical and diagnostic fields,. The clinical activities will be performed in private and public dog shelters and catteries, and these environmental aspects should be taken into account.. The student will get the signalment of each patient and then a complete physical examination will be performed. The diagnostic workup includes the withdraw of biological samples that the students have to perform by themselves (blood, feces, urine, saliva, ear wax, and fur). The conservation and the delivery care and of the samples will be explained.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to carry out a complete clinical examination (signalment, history, general physical examination and oriented towards the main problem) and the to elaborate a diagnostic plan considering the potential diagnosis and to select the appropriate laboratory testing to obtain a definitive diagnosis. The student is required to demonstrate to know how to perform blood samples from the cephalic and/or jugular vein, hair sample, urinary sample buccal swabs, feces sample, and ear vax sample. The student should definitively be able to interact with an appropriate and updated language with other students and teacher.
