Learning objectives
Throughout the teaching workshop, the students will gain knowledge of the main features of the antiquarian bookseller professional figure and of a general idea of the Italian and foreign old books collecting.
Expected learning outcomes
Acquired knowledge of what is necessary to pursue the antiquarian bookseller career, the main tools which the bookseller uses and the main procedures which he implements in order to establish the integrity, the intrinsic and extrinsic importance and the economic value of a book; the ability to find your bearings in the different organizations which operate in the books' collecting world (libraries, bibliographical offices, auction houses); the places where the book trade takes place (retailing, mail-order, via internet, market exhibitions); skills regarding the processes of preservation, esteem and correct circulation of cultural heritage.

- Other places of the market: exhibitions and catalogues (paper - online; e-commerce websites)
- The main tools of the job: bibliographies, repertoires, online sources
- Materials' examination, collection, book condition's esteem
- The things a bibliophile looks for (text, paratext and peritext)
- Pirate copy, forgery, fake publishing and fake manuscripts; typography copies; censorship copies; work copies
- More to be observed: philological variants of status, handwritten notes, author's interventions
- The international book market. Opportunities and difficulties
