Pet's Anatomy and Morphology

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students in-depth knowledge about the anatomy of conventional pets such as dogs and cats and unconventional as the hamster and rabbit, and general knowledge about the anatomy of some exotic animals. Specifically, it aims to provide knowledge of microscopic, macroscopic and topographic anatomy of organs, apparatuses, theoretical, practical and applicative, which can be integrated with the concepts learned in other teachings.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students must be able to identify and describe the morphofunctional aspects of the organs and systems of the animals studied during the lessons;to use correct and consistent language in anatomical disciplines;to apply the acquired knowledge to dialogue constructively and critically with the figures of the world of work in the practical management of pets or to face more in-depth studies if they decide to continue their training.

Course syllabus
Lectures, 2 credits (16 hours) carried out in the classroom with the aid of presentation in ppt:
· Introduction to the course, general anatomy with a short introduction to the cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine and nervous systems of the dog and cat (4 hours)
· Musculoskeletal system of the dog and cat (skeleton, basic aspect of miology, main joints - 3 hours)
· Digestive system of the dog and cat (3 hours)
· Urogenital system of the dog and cat (4 hours)
· Integumentary of the dog and cat (2 hours)
Practical training, 1 credit (16 hours):
· Seminars on the anatomy of hamster, rabbit and reptiles, supported by ppt presentations
· Consultation of bones, whole skeletons and models at the osteoteca of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
· Outings on the territory, possibly programmable from year to year

Prerequisites for admission
Solid knowledge of Histology, Embryology and Anatomy of Domestic Animals acquired during the courses of Anatomy of Domestic Animals of the first year of the CdS of Animal Breeding and Welfare and of the CdS of Sciences of Animal Production

Assessment methods and Criteria
Written exam consisting of 31 multiple choice questions (four answers for each question), on all the topics covered during the frontal and practical lessons. Examples of questions and their answers will be presented to the student at the end of each topic covered, in order to direct the study and make learning more effective.
