Learning objectives
The course aims to illustrate to the student the information and practical contents to understand and manage dog's main ecto- and endo-parasites. The course will also focus on operational strategies contributing to the hygiene and environmental prevention of the parasitic transmission in the breeding farm, and to the improvement of cohabitation between humans and dogs
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will have knowledge about the parasite dynamics and control measures  in  dog farming, and will gain practical experiences and communication skills regarding laboratory and field monitoring of parasites in dog breeding farms

Teaching methods

If the emergency phase does not allow the provision of face-to-face teaching, asynchronous lessons will be made available (video lessons consisting of recording the teacher's desktop with audio commentary), organized to cover the topics of each lesson of the course. The recorded lessons will be made available to students on the ARIEL teaching platform throughout the semester.

Learning assessment procedures

If the situation allows it, the exam will take place in written form according to the procedures described in the section "Exam procedures". Alternatively, the exams will be carried out remotely using the exam.net platform or the Qualtrics platform, in the manner illustrated on the University portal.
Course syllabus
FRONTAL LESSONS.
Canine parasites: biology and epidemiology (4 hours)
Host-parasite interaction and immunoparasitology of companion animals (4 hours)
Parasites of zoonotic concern in the canine breeding (4 hours)
PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES:
Parasites morphology and monitoring techniques (8 hours)
Parasitological monitoring and hygiene in breeding facilities and kennels (8 hours)

Assessment methods and Criteria
One written exam with multiple-choice questions. The exam aims at ascertaining the acquisition, correct understanding and ability to rework the course content.
