Clinical Orthopedics and Traumatology
A.Y. 2022/2023
Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge to understand the physio-pathological bases, the clinical manifestations, the diagnostic procedures, and the therapeutic strategies (pharmacological, orthopaedic, surgical, and rehabilitative) of the most important pathologies of traumatic, metabolic, degenerative, infective, neoplastic, and congenital origin, involving the musculoskeletal system.
Expected learning outcomes
The students are able to.
i) identify the symptoms, collect the signs, request the diagnostics examinations, and suggest the therapeutic strategies finalized to a correct diagnosis and treatment of the principal musculoskeletal pathologies;
ii) understand and use the specific terminology used in the diagnosis of trauma and in the descriptions of the surgical procedures used in orthopaedics;
iii) evaluate the disability due to these pathologies and suggest a rehabilitative approach.

Responsible
Prerequisites for admission
The student should ave the knowledges requested by the courses of Anathomy of the muscluloskeletal apparatus, Physiology, General pathology, Lab Medicine, Diagnostic imaging
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam consists of a test with multiple answer questions, with 1 or 2 possible correct answers (completely correct answer 1 point, partially correct 0,6, partially wrong 0,4). The students that will obtain more than 20 points will be admitted to sustain to the oral exam, generally immediately after the written test.

Teaching methods
The teaching metods consist of frontal lessons, usually with the help of slides, and of practical teaching by attending the activities of the ward, the out-patient service, the first-aid service, the operating room, under the guide of the teachers and of the tutors.
Teaching Resources
The slides projected in the lessons will be available on Ariel, or directly in the classroom.
