Learning objectives
The course objective is to give students the basic notions and techniques for organizing and digitizing information of multimedia libraries (large archives made up of textual, audio, image, video documents)
Expected learning outcomes
The student should acquire the basic knowledge and techniques for digitization, indexing, digital preservation and enhancement through virtualization of media libraries.

Lessons will be held in classroom.
Course syllabus
Digitization of multimedia information (alphanumeric documents, audio, video, images).
Data cataloguing, indexing, and retrieval within multimedia libraries by means of metadata.
Data indexing, and retrieval within multimedia libraries by means of multimedia contents.
Organization, management, preservation, and exploitaion of multimedia libraries.
Preservation of analog and digital multimedia libraries.
Restoring of analog and digital multimedia libraries.
Prerequisites for admission
Basic skills in computer science.
Teaching methods
The course consists in lectures, enriched by multimedia and web examples.
