Learning objectives
The teaching aims to introduce the students to the lexical, syntactic and grammatical peculiarities that characterize the language of linguistic and cultural mediation and communication in public administrations, at school, in court etc. in Hindi language. Furthermore, the teaching aims to introduce the students to the phases and logic that accompany the realization of this expressive and communicative process. In addition to linguistic and, above all, lexical notions, the teaching aims to offer the theoretical tools necessary to identify, analyze and understand the ideological, cultural, social etc. logics and dynamics, which guide and govern communication in Hindi language, determining its expressive modalities and linguistic choices.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of this teaching, the students should have improved their lexical knowledge by acquiring the terminology that characterizes the linguistic and cultural mediation and communication in public administrations, at school, in court etc. The analysis of the texts will allow them to improve and consolidate their translation skills, refining the sensitivity necessary to transpose not only the contents, but the socio-cultural basics and extra-linguistic elements increasing the persuasive force of the message expressed. Furthermore, the study of the extra-linguistic component of communication will allow the students to consolidate their knowledge of the socio-cultural dynamics and ideological orientations that permeate a component of contemporary Indian society. The students will therefore learn to apply their knowledge of Indian history and culture to the deciphering of messages related to linguistic and cultural mediation, thus developing their critical skills and learning to rework previous knowledge in order to penetrate the complexity of contemporary socio-cultural and linguistic products.

Course syllabus
During the lessons of the First Teaching Unit will be analyzed some essays concerning the area of communication and language mediation in Hindi. These essays then will be examined in depth by the practical study of communications taken from websites of public information. In fact, it will be focused not only on the contents but also on the lexicon adopted, so as to acquire both theoretical, linguistic and lexical tools to be able to reflect and examine the linguistic components and socio-cultural implications of those documents. The lessons of the Second Teaching Unit will focus on cultural and language mediation (Italian-Hindi & Hindi-Italian) in the legal area. During this Teaching Unit will be analized case studies and there will be a practical deeping related to translation, specific lexicon and cultural mediation techniques.
Program for non-attending students is the same adopted for attending ones.
Non-attending students who will face difficulties in preparing for the exam program do not hesitate to contact the teachers to request explanations about the contents of the exam program. Since attendance at lessons is considered an integral part of the learning process, which is not intended only for the acquisition of theoretical knowledge of a grammatical nature, but, in equal measure, of expressive and oral skills, it is highly recommended.
Prerequisites for admission
Teaching requires knowledge of the Indian historical-political fundamental features, Indian socio-cultural contexts and good command of Hindi language (understanding, expression, production) as prerequisites.
Teaching methods
The teachers will use: a) frontal lessons; b) thematic insights offered to students (with discussions, analyzes about one of the offered topics and case studies and the conclusions reached); c) preparation by the students of written papers; d) telematic supports. Since attendance at lessons is considered an integral part of the learning process, which is not intended only for the acquisition of theoretical knowledge of a grammatical nature, but, in equal measure, of expressive and oral skills, it is highly recommended to students.

In case of need, Prof. Staurengo has some extra copies of the aforementioned first two texts for attending students.
While, at the beginning of the semester, students will find the aforementioned "Dispensa" (lecture notes) by Prof. Pintus at the LUMI University bookstore of Sesto S. Giovanni. This publication will contain: theoretical texts on the translation technique and the role of the linguistic and cultural mediator in the legal and social sphere and case studies relating to Italian-Hindi and Hindi-Italian translations.

Further bibliographical indications will be provided to students at the beginning of the teaching. However, it is highly recommended to have one of the following dictionaries:

In the study of Prof. Angelillo, then, there are always several copies of the Hindi magazine Bhārat Pariprekṣyă (India Perspectives) published by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the students who are interested can view the numbers of the magazine in the room and choose those of their interest.

Assessment methods and Criteria
This teaching includes a written test and an oral exam. Passing successfully the written test is a binding condition for admission to the oral one. The written test involves the production of a short paper in which the student, using the critical tools and theoretical contents offered during the lessons, analyzes a topic examined and also a short translation (Hindi-Italian) about some other topic covered. MODERATE use of the dictionary is allowed. The oral test will start from the correction of the written test. The teachers will then evaluate the oral expression skills of the candidate by asking him/her to answer questions or to talk about a topic known to the student.
Exam is the same for both attending and non-attending students.
