The course "Representation and Image Theories I" is devoted to investigating the main theoretical perspectives on the nature of images understood as representational artifacts, i.e. referential structures. The relationship between image and representation will be explored on the basis of the most important interpretations developed within Western culture: from classical interpretations of mimesis to the phenomenological reading of image consciousness, from the hermeneutic approach to the analytical theories of depiction, from iconology to visual semiotics.
